Dun Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council has been shortlisted in the ninth annual Chambers Ireland Excellence in Local Government award for Sandyford Smarter Travel.

The awards showcase best practice in local government and highlight some of the great projects that local authorities are undertaking. The Awards are judged by a panel of expert judges working in the field of Local Government.

The Sandyford Smarter Travel Project focuses on the six areas in the Sandyford Business District, the Sandyford Business Estate, the Stillorgan Business Estate, Central Park, South County Business Park, Legionaries of Christ and Leopardstown Park Hospital.

The objectives for the Sandyford Smarter Travel Project are to:

To improve the quality of life and accessibility to all sustainable modes of transport for all persons
living and working in the Sandyford Business District.

To create a walking and cycling culture in the area

To improve economic competitiveness of the area by maximising efficiency of the local transport network
in the Sandyford Business District.

To minimise the negative impacts of transport in the Sandyford Business District.

To reduce the overall travel demand and distances travelled by private car to and from the Sandyford
Business District.

To improve the health and well being of people living and working in the Sandyford Business District.

To improve the air quality and reduce carbon emissions in the area

To contribute to the economic growth of the Sandyford Business District.
