SSE Airtricity wins Best Green Transport Initiative at Envirocom Awards 2015

SSE Airtricity, the largest provider of wind power in Ireland, scooped the award for Best Example of a Green Transport Initiative at this year’s EnviroCom Awards in Dublin last week.

The awards were presented at a gala dinner in the Royal Marine Hotel, Dun Laoghaire by Minister for Communications, Energy and Natural Resources, Alex White T.D., Dun Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council Cathaoirleach Barry Saul and Kevin Kelly, President of the Dun Laoghaire-Rathdown Chamber of Commerce.

SSE Airtricity picked up the award thanks to our innovative campaign to encourage staff towards greener transport options. Some of our initiatives included: extra shower facilities for staff members who walk or cycle to work, Tax eSaver tickets for public transport, parking incentives for those who car-share, and a month-long pedometer challenge.

The EnviroCom Awards are run jointly by the Dun Laoghaire-Rathdown Chamber of Commerce and County Council to recognise businesses and not-for-profit organisations that make an exceptional effort to protect the environment.

Aoife Ryan, Head of Sustainability at SSE Airtricity, said: “At SSE Airtricity we’re always looking for ways to improve and grow our green credentials, and this award recognises the great work being carried out by people across the business. As Ireland’s largest green energy generator, we have a strong focus on sustainability and the environment. Since moving to our new headquarters in Leopardstown, we have successfully encouraged a cultural shift towards greener transport options, which fits naturally with the company’s core values of sustainability and safety.”
