Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council at its meeting tonight approved a Capital Expenditure Programme of €134m over the 3 year period 2016 to 2018...
Approximately €111m of the total expenditure of €134m will be funded from the Council’s own resources, with the balance of €23m coming from non-Council resources - mainly grant aid from central Government Departments. The Council will not have to undertake any borrowing to fund the Capital Expenditure Programme.
In selecting projects for inclusion in the Programme the Council has sought to ensure a reasonable balance in capital expenditure between the two Council areas (i.e. Dún Laoghaire and Dundrum) and to prioritise community and recreational amenities/facilities across the county. The Programme will also be reviewed on an annual basis and projects may be added if funding and other opportunities arise.
Speaking after the approval of the Capital Programme, An Cathaoirleach, Councillor Barry Saul, said,
‘It is expected that the progression of these schemes under the Three Year Capital Programme will vastly enhance the quality of life of the communities they will serve, and promote the County as an attractive place to live, work and visit’.
Some of the projects included in the Programme are:

Completion of Phase 1 of the Samuel Beckett Civic Campus, providing community and sporting facilities to residents in the west of the County;

Completion of Phase 2 of the Marlay Park Courtyard Units which will upgrade the courtyard for CoCo markets;

The Dún Laoghaire Harbour “Badeschiff” Project, which will provide an open swimming pool adjacent to the East Pier;

Additional expenditure on flood alleviation measures across the County;

Completion of the Leopardstown Link Road and Roundabout Reconfiguration which will in turn allow for further development in the Sandyford area;

Significant expenditure on Traffic Improvement Schemes, with a focus on walking and cycling modes;

Programme of parks improvements at Ballawley, Blackrock and Carysfort Parks. These will include pond upgrades, bandstand upgrade and landscaping.
