The Green Awards, which have been running since 2010, are designed to celebrate those demonstrating best green practice in Ireland. This year’s awards ceremony took place at a gala dinner at the Clayton Hotel in Dublin.

SSE Airtricity beat off stiff competition to claim the prestigious award, which was presented by Green Party Leader, Eamon Ryan TD.

SSE Airtricity provides 100% renewable energy to all its home and business customers in Ireland, and is also the country’s largest generator of wind power.

On collecting the award, Stephen Gallagher, Director of Business Energy at SSE Airtricity, said:

“We’re delighted to win the Green Energy Provider Award, and I want to thank our entire team for their continued commitment to our sustainability values, which are such a key part of our identity as a business.

“At SSE Airtricity, our heritage is in clean, green energy, and we’re proud to be Ireland’s leading provider of 100% renewable power to home and business customers throughout the country. The Green Awards is a fantastic event, and it’s great to see so many businesses here, celebrating best practice across a wide range of industries.

“Congratulations to all those who won awards tonight, or were shortlisted, and thanks to everyone working on the Green Awards for a brilliant night!”

SSE was also shortlisted for the Green Construction Award as part of the Galway Wind Park project team. SSE and Coillte are currently constructing the 169MW Galway Wind Park which, when complete, will be Ireland’s largest wind farm.
