Demand increases as much as 260% for Ireland’s fastest growing “Green” Jobs – INDEED

Ahead of the annual celebration of Earth Day later this week, Indeed has identified the five fastest-growing “green” jobs in Ireland. These roles in the areas of environment and sustainability were identified by an analysis of postings on Indeed.com, which attracts 2.8 million unique visitors each month in Ireland.

The fastest growing “green” role is Water Treatment Specialist, with postings on Indeed increasing by 267% over the last three years. Environmental consultant (146% growth), environmental health and safety officer (127% growth), ecologist (100% growth) and environmental specialist (65% growth) round out the top five.

Earth Day (22nd April) is now a global event, and the Earth Day Network estimates that more than 1 billion people in 192 countries will mark the occasion this year. Earth Day 2018 will focus on mobilising support to end plastic pollution, including creating support for a global effort to eliminate single-use plastics along with global regulation for the disposal of plastics.

Gerard Murnaghan, Vice President EMEA for Indeed said;

“Countries all around the world are now required to reduce their dependence on fossil fuels in the coming years, so this growth in so-called “green” jobs should come as no surprise. In keeping with the theme of 2018 Earth Day, there is already growing awareness in Ireland of the imperative to tackle plastic pollution, particularly as an island nation.”

“With Ireland’s national grid operator recently announcing that Ireland's power system is the first in the world capable of delivering 65pc of all electricity from variable sources including wind, it is also interesting to note that postings on Indeed for the role of wind turbine technician jumped by 36% in the period.”
