SSE Airtricity awarded EcoMerit Environmental Certification

SSE Airtricity, Ireland’s largest green energy provider, has been awarded EcoMerit Environmental Certification by An Cathaoirleach, Cllr. Tom Murphy, following approval by a steering committee comprising the Environmental Protection Agency, Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council and environmental consultancy, Econcertive.

The Certificate relates to SSE Airtricity’s headquarters in Leopardstown, Dublin 18, and is valid for three years subject to annual surveillance of the company’s commitment to continuous environmental improvement in line with the requirements of the EcoMerit Programme.

An Cathaoirleach, Cllr. Tom Murphy commented:

It is a great privilege to award the EcoMerit Environmental Certification to SSE Airtricity, a company which has invested in the supply of green energy to the Irish market for many years and has now committed to twenty five specific actions to reduce the environmental impact of its office here in Leopardstown.”

SSE Airtricity’s environmental improvement plans include reviewing its procurement procedures to establish to what extent environmental considerations inform purchasing decisions, upgrading CFL lights with LED alternatives where feasible, implementing a waste prevention programme, increasing segregation for reuse and recycling, and investigating ways to conserve water.

On receiving the EcoMerit Certification, Marian Troy, Head of Corporate Affairs at SSE Airtricity, said:

At SSE Airtricity, sustainability is one of our core values. As Ireland’s largest provider of renewable energy, and a company with a proud green heritage, we have a strong focus on our environmental impact, and we’re committed to continuously improving our performance in a measurable way. We are delighted to receive this EcoMerit Certification, and we’re looking forward to using the programme to help us meet our environmental improvement goals.”
