EcoMerit Environmental Certification Awarded to Airfield Estate

Airfield Estate, Dundrum has been awarded EcoMerit Environmental Certification by An Cathaoirleach, Cllr. Ossian Smyth and Ms. Aileen Eglington, President of Dun Laoghaire Rathdown Chamber.

The Certificate is valid for three years subject to annual surveillance of Airfiled’s commitment to continuous environmental improvement.

An Cathaoirleach, Cllr.  Ossian Smyth commented:

It is a great privilege to award the EcoMerit Environmental Certification to Airfield Estate which has an Environmental Policy, monitors its water and energy usage and strives to reduce its waste generation. Airfield has also committed to thirty two specific actions to reduce the environmental impact of its operations by 2020 including upgrading CFL lights with LED alternatives, fitting motion sensors to improve energy efficiency and investigating ways to conserve water.

Ms. Aileen Eglington President, Dún Laoghaire Rathdown Chamber stated:

Dún Laoghaire Rathdown Chamber has long been associated with honouring the best environmental practices of its members and I am delighted that Airfield Estate is being awarded EcoMerit Certification having participated in the GreenSave programme promoted by Dún Laoghaire Rathdown Chamber. This programme provides for environmental consultancy to be offered for a limited period to organisations in the county at a reduced rate to assist them in becoming environmentally certified.

On receiving the EcoMerit Certification, John O’Toole, Operations and Sustainability Director, Airfield Estate said:

Airfield is a charitable organisation, established by the Overend family in 1974, for educational and recreational purposes and facilitates active learning focusing on food, farming and the land. At Airfield, sustainability is one of our core values and we are committed to continuously improving our environmental performance in a measurable way. We are proud to have been awarded EcoMerit Certification, and are looking forward to using the programme to help us meet our ongoing environmental improvement goals.”
