LONDON (Reuters) - Japanese car maker Nissan <7201.T> has upped its UK production target by about 5 percent and added 400 temporary workers to its Sunderland plant, a senior company director said on Friday.
The group, which axed 1,200 jobs from the Sunderland operation in January due to the industry slump, is responding to a surge in demand caused by the scrappage incentive scheme announced by the government in last month's budget.
"We have seen an awful lot more footfall in our dealerships since the government announced its scrappage scheme," said Trevor Mann, Senior Vice-President of Manufacturing at Nissan International.
