RBS names Crombie as senior non-exec

LONDON (Reuters) - Royal Bank of Scotland <RBS.L> said Standard Life <SL.L> Chief Executive Sandy Crombie would join the part-nationalised bank as its senior independent director next month.

RBS said on Friday that Crombie would join as a non-executive director on June 1. The appointment was made in consultation with UK Financial Investments, which handles the government's 70 percent stake in the lender.

Crombie has spent 42 years at Edinburgh-based insurer Standard Life and oversaw its flotation in 2006. He said in March he will step down as CEO when a successor is appointed.

Philip Hampton, RBS chairman, said Crombie will bring to the role "his extensive experience of, and engagement with, institutional shareholders, government and regulators."
